The Diviners
2004

program

To open our season, we brought back one of our most popular plays, Jim Leonard, Jr.'s The Diviners .

Set in rural Indiana during the Great Depression of the 1930s, The Diviners is the story of a troubled, autistic boy and the lasting effect he has on his family and tiny community.  This funny, insightful, and heart-warming play ran for ten performances in October.

The Diviners also saw the return to the Black Box of former Calhoun actor Zack Whittington, best-known to Calhoun audiences  as Don Pedro in Much Ado About Nothing , Hal in Picnic , and Romeo in Romeo and Juliet .  After receiving his theatre degree from Ole Miss, Zack spent a year with the Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival.  Before moving on to Chicago , Zack accepted the role of C. C. Showers and was terrific.  The students loved him and learned much from him, and we all wish him the best in Chicago .
