Federal Student Aid Grant Programs. The federal government provides grant funds for students attending colleges, career schools and universities. Grants are not loans and do not have to be repaid. Information about scholarships is also available. Click here to search to find scholarships. Big Sun Scholarship

The Big Sun Organization is offering a $500.00 scholarship to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits.  The successful applicant will be currently involved in athletics
in some capacity, either for their school or community.

Francis Cabaniss Roberts Charitable Trust Scholarship

The Francis Cabaniss Roberts Trust offers a $500.00 scholarship to motivated students from the Huntsville/Madison county area who are enrolled or who intend to enroll in an accredited college, university, post-graduate, technical or preparatory school in the state of Alabama.

The Montgomery Regional Office of the Alabama Kidney Foundation offers a  $1000.00 scholarship  for students who are dialysis or transplant patients or who are the children of such patients.

180 Medical Scholarships

180 Medical is honored to have started a scholarship program to help those with spinal cord injuries, spina bifida, and transverse myelitis. Three $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to those who demonstrate perseverance, courage, and good will have have made the best of their condition. These are one-time scholarships (not annual). Applicants are allowed to apply in subsequent years.

Alabama Department of Postsecondary Leadership in Child Care Scholarship Program

This scholarship provides financial assistance (tuition and selected fees) to qualified child care professionals working in child care centers/programs, and family and group homes to obtain a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential, Short-Term Certificate, Certificate, or Associate in Applied Science/Technology Degree in Child Development/Early Care and Education studies.  Scholarship recipients must reside and work in Alabama. Applicants must apply for college admission and are encouraged to apply for financial aid prior to submitting this application. Download the application, complete and mail to the Alabama Department of Postsecondary. Application must be received by the indicated deadlines.
Deadline:  Ongoing as follows: June 1 each year for Fall Semester enrollment and no later than September 1 for Spring and Summer Semester.

Tom Joyner Foundation Full Ride Scholarship

Applicant must be a United States citizen who is a current high school senior anticipating completion of high school in the spring and attend an HBCU by July 1. Minimum high school 3.5 GPA and SAT Reasoning score of 1300 (ACT score of 28) are required. Applicant must have demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities.

Call Me Mister

A collaboration between Clemson University, private historically black colleges (Benedict College, Claflin University, and Morris College). CALL ME MISTER program is an effort to address the critical shortage of African American male teachers particularly among South Carolina's lowest performing schools. Program participants are selected from among under-served, socio-economically disadvantaged and educationally at-risk communities.  Two letters of recommendation

  • one (1) from a teacher, guidance counselor, or principal at the high school from which the the diploma is earned
  • one (1) from a person of the student's choice - who can express involvement in the community and/or potential for entering the teaching profession
    An Essay entitled "Why I Want To Teach," which will address the student's motivation for entering the teaching profession and the contributions he will make to the profession and to the community as a teacher.  Apply for and be accepted into one of the participation colleges or universities which the degree and teaching certificate will be earned.

The SALLIEMAE Fund Scholarship -- $2.5 MILLION

• “First in My Family" - provides scholarship awards to Hispanic-American students who are the first in their family to attend college.
• "Unmet Need" - Open to families with a combined income of less than $30,000 -this program provides a "last-dollar" resource of $1,000 to $3,800 when no other funds are available.
• "American Dream" - Offers scholarships to African-American students with demonstrated financial need.
• "Writers of Passage" - Awards winning students from a Historically Black College or University, or a predominantly black college, with a $5,000 scholarship - Universities of winning students will receive a $20,000 grant from The Sallie Mae Fund.
"The Sallie Mae 911 Fund" - Provides scholarship dollars to children of those who were killed or permanently disabled in the attacks.
