Salon and Spa Management
The Calhoun Salon and Spa Management program’s mission is to provide salon and spa training, business skills, and the academics required for successful employment in a rapidly changing industry to become a licensed professional. Students practice techniques in a supervised full service onsite salon setting including hairstyling, nail care, chemical services, and skin care. Online classes are also available for selected courses. The A. A. S. Degree with certification typically requires five semesters of full-time attendance.
Over 50,000 positions went unfilled last year! The salon business is a growing and challenging field in which professionals may choose one of several careers, in the following:
Salon & Spa Management: Cosmetology Associates of Applied Science: This program is designed for entrepreneurial pursuits, with emphasis on marketing, and applicable business marketing. This degree program gives the student the knowledge and basic skills required to become a licensed cosmetologist.
Salon & Spa Management: Cosmetology Certificate-- This degree program gives the student the knowledge and basic skills required to become a licensed cosmetologist.
Salon & Spa Management: Esthetics Associates of Applied Science: This program includes entrepreneurial pursuits, with emphasis on business marketing. These courses include all phases of facial training and also practical skills needed for spa esthetics licensure.
Salon & Spa Management: Esthetics Certificate: This program includes all phases of facial spa training and skills for an esthetics licensure.
Salon & Spa Management: Nail Technology Associates of Applied Science: This program includes business marketing and entrepreneurial pursuits with a career in spa manicuring, pedicuring, and nail application skills.
Nail Technology Certificate: This program is designed for the student who is preparing for a career in all phases of nail care.
The Cosmetology/Instructor Option is a teacher training program which prepares the licensed professional for the Alabama instructor exam.
There are 3 different schedules for students to choose from:
- Full-time Day—Monday – Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- Part-time Day—Monday – Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
- Evening—Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, 4:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
- Specialized training and professional education classes Friday
The Salon and Spa Management program is located in Building 4 on the Decatur Campus (see campus map). The facility provides students with state-of-the art equipment and classroom facilities. Clients will enjoy our supervised on-sight salon services (See Price List).
