ART 100
Keeping a creative amount of flexibility in the teaching methodology of
ART 100 was paramount to our redesign team. Our innovative Course
Outline avoids course drift yet allows teachers to augment their lectures by personally selecting from an array of projects and audiovisuals that can be updated. As adopted from Title III, the "Replacement Model" typically replaces one class session per week and challenges the students to individually pursue reading, online research and testing. The overwhelming majority of students embrace this and actually attend the remaining weekly class more eagerly.
Although there was trepidation among some faculty, the transition online can be eased by starting early in the redesign process to learn and then implement WebCT. The grade book feature alone is worth the initial effort! And, quite effectively, the unique personalities of our team not only balanced but also enhanced our work -- this Art Appreciation redesign benefited from the input of one optimist, one pessimist and one realist!
ENG 102
The Redesign Committee for English 102 selected the "Supplemental Model" as the most appropriate for our course. We followed post-secondary guidelines and our departmental syllabus, making some objectives more explicit than they were before. We have supplemented our course with WEBCT communication with our students. The pilot classes are unfolding predictably, with some students enjoying the online features. |
