Grants Administration Computer Science, Mathematics & Technology (CMT)
Academic Rewards Program
Special Program Features
Student support structures to help the recipients succeed. Refer to discussion of cohort learning community (Academic Rewards Project Student Support Services and Programs section), required workshops (Academic Rewards Project Student Support Services and Programs section), faculty mentoring (Program Management Plan section and Academic Rewards Project Student Support Services and Programs sections), and college support services.
Enhancements. These include tutoring of first term scholars and those with academic difficulties (Academic Rewards Project Student Support Services and Programs section), and short-term job shadowing and internships with area businesses and an optional opportunity to serve as tutor/mentor when a sophomore (Academic Rewards Project Student Support Services and Programs section).
The CSEMS disciplines addressed. The disciplines addressed are computer information systems (programming and network technology), mathematics in which pre-engineering students also enroll, and advanced technology programs as described in the Quality Educational Programs section. Although Calhoun's computer-related degree programs are titled "Computer Information Systems," there is a strong linkage with traditional computer science studies both in course content and in overall student preparation. Required AAS courses, such as C++ Programming, Visual Basic, Introduction to Networking, and Java Programming are almost always included in a university-level Computer Science curriculum.
Faculty PI. The PI is both a faculty member currently teaching in the CIS discipline and a department head. Two of the Co-PI's are currently department or division heads and one also teaches each term.
Scholarship requirements. As discussed under Student Selection Process and Criteria, all recipients will meet NSF standards, will be full-time according to state standard definitions, and will utilize the standard need calculations defined under the Pell awards for determining the neediest students. Policies for award, retention and financial management are a duty of the PAT which was discussed in the Academic Rewards Program Management Plan. back to main page |
