The Program
The Surgical Technology Program at
Calhoun Community College consists of three semesters of classroom, lab,
and clinical education. A student completing the program receives a
certificate and is eligible to sit for the LCC-ST Certified Surgical
Technologist Exam.
Admission
Requirements
Acceptance into Calhoun Community
College does NOT constitute nor guarantee admission into the Surgical
Technology program. Students interested in admission to the Surgical
Technology program should complete an application through the Calhoun
Allied Health Department office in Shelton Health Building, Room 107
(Decatur campus), or through Grant Wilson, Program Director, in Shelton
Health Building, Room 104. Currently, one class is admitted to begin fall
semester of each year.
The minimum requirements for admission
into the Surgical Technology program include:
- Submit a completed application form to the
Admissions Office at Calhoun Community College and be accepted for
enrollment by the College.
- Attend an information and interview
session.
- Submit a completed Surgical Technology
Application Form to the Department of Allied Health (Forms are made
available at information sessions).
- Possess a high school diploma or
equivalent.
- Completion of, or eligibility to enroll (ACT
English score of 20 or better, or SAT verbal score of 480 or better) in
ENG 101.
- A cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on any
coursework completed.
- Completed Medical Terminology (EMS 106 or HPS
105) with a grade of C or better.
- Completed Math 100, 112, or 116 with a grade of C or better.
Selection Process
Meeting minimum requirements does NOT
guarantee admission into the Surgical Technology program. Students meeting
the minimum requirements will be presented to the Surgical Technology
Admissions Committee when students have:
Up to 22 students with the highest application scores will be granted
admissions.
