Head Baseball Coach, Mike Burns

Mike Burns enters his seventh season as the head coach at Calhoun Community College. His 2011 Warhawks were number one in the nation with a .968 fielding percentage. The 2011 club finished the season 2nd in the Northern division with a conference record of 22 – 5 and an overall record of 33 -21. Burns is a graduate of Decatur High School where he served as head baseball coach from 1998-2007. Coach Burns played college baseball at Calhoun and the University of North Alabama. During his playing days at Calhoun, Coach Burns was named All Conference, All Region, and All Region MVP. Mike was also on the Academic All Region XXII team during his Calhoun career. While at the University of North Alabama, Burns was named All Gulf South Conference, All South Central Region, and All American. Coach Burns graduated with a BS in Health/Physical Fitness, and a Masters degree in Education. In 2002 he was put in the University of North Alabama Athletic Hall of Fame. After UNA, Mike played professionally with the Houston Astros organization from 1991 – 1993. 

In addition to coaching Calhoun’s men’s baseball, his new position includes teaching Physical Education and College Orientation classes, as well as serving as a student advisor.

Mike is married to the former Lane Stinson. They have two sons, Link (18) and Tanner (15).
Derrick Harwood

Assistant Coach, Derrick Harwood

Coach Harwood was born and raised in Scottsville, KY where he graduated from Allen County-Scottsville High School. After high school he attended Calhoun and was a member of the baseball team in 2008 and 2009. Graduating from Calhoun with an Associates in General Education in 2009 Coach Harwood went on to continue his playing career at Cumberland University in Lebanon, TN where he received a bachelors degree in Exercise Science and was a member of the 2010 NAIA National Championship team. Harwood became an assistant coach at Cumberland under Hall of Fame coach Woody Hunt. Coach Harwood is in his first season as assistant to Head Coach Mike Burns.


Joe Noro

Assistant Coach, Joe Noro

Born and raised in Aspinwall PA. Graduate of Fox Chapel Area High School in 2007. Started his playing career at Calhoun Community College. As a pitcher was tied for team lead in appearances as a freshmen. As a sophomore went 10-1 and was selected to the All Region Team. Continued his playing career at the University of Montevallo. He started his coaching career at Lawson State community college in Birmingham Alabama. During his 2 years at Lawson he served as the outfield and pitching coach. He served as the pitching coach for the Licking County Settlers of the Great Lakes Collegiate League where his staff was number 1 in the league on the way to winning the 2013 championship. Entering his first season at Calhoun Community college as an infield and pitching coach.
