Mike Burns enters his fourth season as the head coach at Calhoun Community College. His 2011 Warhawks were number one in the nation with a .968 fielding percentage. The 2011 club finished the season 2nd in the Northern division with a conference record of 22 – 5 and an overall record of 33 -21. Burns is a graduate of Decatur High School where he served as head baseball coach from 1998-2007. Coach Burns played college baseball at Calhoun and the University of North Alabama. During his playing days at Calhoun, Coach Burns was named All Conference, All Region, and All Region MVP. Mike was also on the Academic All Region XXII team during his Calhoun career. While at the University of North Alabama, Burns was named All Gulf South Conference, All South Central Region, and All American. Coach Burns graduated with a BS in Health/Physical Fitness, and a Masters degree in Education. In 2002 he was put in the University of North Alabama Athletic Hall of Fame. After UNA, Mike played professionally with the Houston Astros organization from 1991 – 1993.
In addition to coaching Calhoun’s men’s baseball, his new position includes teaching Physical Education and College Orientation classes, as well as serving as a student advisor.
Mike is married to the former Lane Stinson. They have two sons, Link (16) and Tanner (13).
Chase Marona begins his first season as an assistant coach at Calhoun Community College. Chaseis a 2007 graduate from Buckhorn High School. He played 4 years as a Varsity Pitcher & Shortstop. 3 out of 4 years he was All Area & All Metro during his High School career. He signed a scholarship to Northwest Shoals. After being All Tournament, All American & All Conference he was drafted his sophomore year by the San Diego Padres. He was awarded Runner-Up Pitcher of the Year. During his career with the Padres he played Single A, Double AA & Triple AAA.
