Orientation

What is it?

Congratulations on your decision to become a Calhoun Community College student. Welcome aboard! We are so excited to have you.

We understand that the college process is new and often confusing for most freshmen. As a result, we have created a special course designed just for you: “Orientation to College, ORI 101”.

This one-credit hour course is mandatory for all incoming freshmen.

This will be a great class that covers important topics like:
  • Calhoun emails and Blackboard
  • Important policies and procedures
  • Time Management
  • Note-Taking
You will finish the class with a Graduation and Career Portfolio containing a 2-year plan tailored just for you!  Additionally, you will meet other first-time students and get plugged-in to Calhoun. Data shows that students who have taken ORI 101 are more successful in college than those who do not! We are certain that this class will help you get off to a great start at Calhoun.

We look forward to meeting you!

Course Options

ORI 101 is a 1-credit hour course that requires you pay tuition & fees and purchase a book. We offer a variety of ORI 101 class options for your convenience. Choose from one of the formats below:

3-day mini:  This fast paced option condenses the semester into 3 class sessions, lasting 4 hours and 40 minutes each day, with extra follow up work to be completed on your own after your class sessions are finished. An advising session is also required as part of this course.

Half semester: These are the traditional 8 week courses (5 weeks in the summer). Some are the first half of the semester, others are the second half of the semester. You'll meet twice a week for 50 minutes each class session. Campus activities and an advising session are required as part of this course.

Online: This course is offered via Blackboard. All assignments and classroom discussions are completed online.  You will still be required to meet with an advisor during your online course, so be sure to plan for that meeting at least once during the semester.

Weekend: This format is much like the 3-day mini. Classes will meet on a Friday (6:00-8:00 pm), Saturday (8:00 am - 2:00 pm), and Sunday (2:00 - 4:30 pm).  There will be additional work to be completed on your own after the class meetings are complete. An advising session is also required as part of this course.
