Calhoun to Host Annual Veterans Day Program
November 7, 2017
Decatur, AL -- Dr. Jim Klauber, president of Calhoun Community College, today announced that the college will host its annual Veterans Day Observance this Thursday, November 9, 2017, beginning at 10am at Alabama Center for the Arts Recital Hall.
Commander (retired) Virgil Whitlow, a native of Roanoke, Alabama, will be the event’s featured speaker. Currently serving as senior acquisition analyst for Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. supporting PEO Missiles and Space in the Joint Air to Ground Missile Program, Whitlow enlisted in the Navy immediately after graduating from high school. A graduate of Georgia State University with a B.S. degree in mathematics, Whitlow also graduated from the U.S. Navy Test Pilot School and has accumulated over 3500 fixed wing flight hours in 28 different aircraft. He retired as a Commander in 2011, moving to Madison, Alabama, with his wife and three children.
“Each year, the College hosts this observance as a way to recognize not only those members of the Calhoun family who have given back to our country through service in their respective branch of the military but also to honor those throughout the community who join us for this celebration,” commented Klauber (retired Lt. Col, Judge Advocate Generals Corps, U.S. Army National Guard).
In addition to Commander Whitlow’s presentation, the program will include the annual musical salute to veterans, performed by the Calhoun Jazz Band and Calhoun Chorale.
The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
