November 18, 2016
In a recent issue of the national publication Community College Week, Calhoun Community College was listed among the nation’s Top 50 Associate Degree producers for Registered, Administration, Research and Clinical Nursing graduates.
With 210 graduates during the 2015-16 academic year (the period of time ranked in the article), Calhoun was listed 47th among the Top 50, a 19% increase in graduates over the 2014-15 school year.
“The implementation of specific strategies geared toward increasing retention and graduation rates for the college continues to be a major objective, and I feel that this increase in our nursing graduates has a direct correlation to this emphasis,” commented Calhoun President Dr. Jim Klauber.
As has been stated in Community College Week “associate degrees and two-year certificates are central to workforce development efforts across the United States. Despite the fiscal constraints that have negatively impacted appropriations to public institutions, degree and certificate production have improved.”
“We are proud that Calhoun continues to be recognized among this region’s most successful workforce and economic development engines,” added Klauber. “Our graduates are quite successful, whether their goal is to transfer to a four-year program or go directly into the workforce, as you will find with most of our nursing graduates.”
Community College Week is a bi-weekly publication of news, trends, and issues regarding two-year colleges.
