Calhoun's tradition of presenting a Shakespeare
play each spring in stadium configuration in the Black Box Theatre began in 1996 with
twelve performances of A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM. This was also the first year of the
theatre outreach program that brought area schools to Calhoun to see Shakespeare. Calhoun's MIDSUMMER was set in the English Regency on a glittering set of white. Perhaps the most musical of Shakespeare's comedies, it combined original songs with Purcell's THE FAIRY QUEEN and Mendelssohn's A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM incidental music. |
