STUDENT RECRUITMENT
Recruitment is primarily a function assigned to the Office of Admissions and Records. The primary college “recruiter” is the Administrative Assistant to the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs. In the role of recruiter, the Administrative Assistant reports to the Director of Admissions and Registrar, who reports to the Assistant Dean and is responsible for the college recruitment program.
The focus of the college recruitment program is to provide high school students and other interested parties sufficient information to aid them in making a fundamentally sound decision pertaining to their pursuit of postsecondary education. A limited budget and personnel does not allow for a substantial expansion of our recruitment philosophy.
Each year the following actions are implemented to insure distribution of college information and to maintain open lines of communication with counselors, principals, and other friends of the college.
High School Recruiting:
- May July Updating and printing of college recruitment information; Selection/ordering of counselor gifts
- Sept. Nov. High School visitations by college representative; Participation in and hosting of College Day programs
- Dec. Jan. Provide information upon request
- Feb. April Continued contact with high schools, with emphasis on scholarship applications
During the fall semester a high school counselor breakfast is usually sponsored by the Foundation. This is a chance for us to network with the local high school representatives. The Administrative Assistant for the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs is the person who coordinates this effort. Food has to be ordered and setup has to be requested by the maintenance staff. Usually, some sort of gift is presented to each high school representative during this time, as well as updated admissions materials.
There is also a Career Enrichment Day held during the fall and spring semesters for local 8th graders. This is an opportunity for the students to get “hands on” experience in different fields of study. The Administrative Assistant for the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs coordinates this effort. Planning of this event involves participation from the faculty of the college in approximately 15 different areas of interest. A lot of student/ambassador assistance is needed for touring the 8th graders across campus.
During April through May, the Administrative Assistant coordinates presenters, insuring that Calhoun is represented at ALL service area high school awards programs. Faculty, staff, administrators, and sometimes students are scheduled to present the awards.
All Year: College radio, television, newspaper, and billboard ads are coordinated through the Office of Public Relations. The Office of Public Relations also coordinates a Speakers Bureau for area organizations. Activities that relate to business and industry training, courses, programs, etc. are facilitated through the Office of Business and Industry Services.
