$$$$$ Scholarships $$$$$ The TRIO SSS-Emerging Scholars Program has implemented new criteria regarding the awarding of the 2007-2008 scholarships. The information below outlines how you may qualify for a $400.00 scholarship from the Emerging Scholars Program.  Although you may eligible to receive a scholarship, you will not be awarded the funds until the end of the fall 2007 semester or the beginning of the spring semester.  You may or may not be eligible to receive a scholarship again next fall. Accepted as a participant Must be receiving a Pell grant of $400.00 or more and have an unmet need of at least $400.00.  If your pell grant or unmet need is less than $400, or if you do not have an unmet need, you will NOT be eligible to apply for a scholarship.  If you accept student loans to cover your entire unmet need, you will not be eligible for our scholarship.  Please take this into consideration when accepting student loans.  Must be enrolled in 12 hours or more at the time of acceptance into the program with credit in 9 hours by the end of the semester.  A part-time participant enrolled in 6 to 11 hours and completes 6-hours with an ending semester GPA of 2.5 will be eligible to receive $500.00 if all other criteria is met.  Part-time participants are ineligible to increase the amount of their award. Mandatory semester GPA of 2.5 or above by end of fall semester…NO EXCEPTIONS Must have completed all assessments. Must have completed at least 3 study skill workshops by November 1, 2007. Have three contacts per semester with program director or advisor for academic advisement. Attended 2 cultural events One 4-year college visit Accumulate a total of 10 hours of contact time with program staff.  These hours can be accumulated by attending workshops presented by program staff or by participating in cultural events. Write a 250 word essay describing your career/academic goals and how the Emerging Scholars Program has helped you to achieve them.  If you need assistance, we will help you write it.  In addition, you may increase the amount of your award for the fall 2007 semester by attending the events listed and by ending the semester with a higher grade point average. One Huntsville Music performance 100.00 One financial aid seminar 100.00 Ending semester GPA 3.0 to 3.5 100.00 Ending semester GPA of 3.51 to 4.0 200.00 Perfect class attendance 100.00 (Students will be responsible for getting the required signatures from instructors to verify attendance, and returning the form to our department) Please note:  You must complete an application and submit it along with other necessary information by December 10, 2007.  We will confirm your ending semester GPA following the posting of all grades.
