Calhoun Community College Announces Summer Semester Enrollment Increase

Dr. Marilyn Beck, president of Calhoun Community College, today announced that with a total of 5559 students enrolled for the 2008 summer semester, the college has close to a 5% increase over last summer’s enrollment.  Enrollment by site is as follows:  Decatur campus (day and evening):  2059; Huntsville campus (day and evening):  2148; Distance Education:  1088 and Limestone Correctional Facility:  264.

According to Rob Steinmetz, Calhoun’s new associate dean of enrollment management and college registrar, the most significant increases this summer are at the Huntsville/Cummings Research Park campus and in the college’s distance education courses. “With the many commitments and challenging schedules many of our students face, our distance education classes provide a scheduling option that in some cases offers more flexibility than a traditional classroom course,” Steinmetz said.

 “At a time when other higher education institutions are experiencing declines in enrollment, we continue to see relatively steady growth in our numbers,” commented Steinmetz.  “We feel that this helps to demonstrate that Calhoun is becoming even more the ‘institution of first choice” to help students realize their educational and career goals,” he added.

"We are extremely pleased to see continued increases in our enrollment, particularly during the summer when students have so many other activities in which they are involved," said Beck. "As the largest of Alabama’s two-year colleges, Calhoun continues to offer a quality education for our students at an affordable cost and at convenient times and locations, which we feel all contribute toward our continued enrollment increases.

“We remain dedicated to providing the level of educational and training opportunities which this community demands and are proud to be an active partner in the north Alabama area,” Beck added.
