Calhoun Community College Announces
Record Summer Semester Enrollment

Dr. Marilyn Beck, president of Calhoun Community College, today announced that with a total of 5182 students enrolled for the 2007 summer semester, the college has reached a record summer enrollment, an actual increase of 407 students which is more than 8.5% over last summer’s enrollment.

According to Dr. Wayne Tosh, director of admissions and registrar for Calhoun, the most significant increases this summer have been experienced at the Huntsville/Cummings Research Park campus and in the college’s distance education courses. “For the first time since being at our Huntsville/Research park campus, we have offered day classes this year. These offerings have proven to be very attractive to our students and something they have requested for quite some time, said Tosh.

“Additionally, with the many commitments and challenging schedules many of our students face, our distance education classes provide yet another scheduling option, offering more flexibility than a traditional classroom course,” Tosh added.

"We are extremely pleased to see continued increases in our enrollment, particularly during the summer when students have so many other activities in which they are involved," said Beck. "As the largest of Alabama’s two-year colleges, Calhoun continues to offer a quality education to our students at an affordable cost and at convenient times and locations, all contributing toward our continued enrollment increases.

“We remain dedicated to providing the level of educational and training opportunities which this community demands and are proud to be an active partner in the north Alabama area,” Beck added.
