Calhoun Community College's Best to be
Honored
at 38th Annual Honors Day Program
Calhoun Community College will recognize and honor its top students, faculty, and staff during the college’s 38th Annual Honors Day program, planned for Friday, April 27, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. in the Kelley Gymnasium on the Decatur campus.
Among the students to be honored are the college’s “Top Ten Most Outstanding Students,” the most outstanding student from each of Calhoun’s divisions and departments, students named to Who’s Who among Students in American Junior Colleges, and the Calhoun Athlete of the Year, who will represent the college later in the year for the Conference Athlete of the Year award. Other awards to be presented during the ceremony include the James B. Allen Pin Award, given in honor of the late U.S. Senator James B. Allen of Alabama to the student who has demonstrated order through citizenship, scholarship and service.
Academic awards will be given to those students receiving Calhoun scholarships, and scholarships from four-year colleges and universities also will be awarded by representatives from those institutions.
Outstanding faculty and staff at the college will be recognized through the presentation of Outstanding Teaching Awards to full and part-time faculty and the Outstanding Service Awards to be presented to the staff member and administrator who have best demonstrated outstanding service to the institution and community in the past year.
A special award will be presented to Calhoun president Marilyn Beck from the National Sigma Kappa Delta English Honor Society for Two-Year Colleges (SKD), which is headquartered at Calhoun. Dr. Beck will receive an honorary membership of distinction in SKD in honor of the organizations tenth anniversary. Dr. Beck is the first college president in the entire nation to be bestowed the honor and only the second person ever to receive the award.
A picnic for students and their families will be held immediately following the program.
