Calhoun Community College Announces 2007 Graduation

Dr. Robert R. JenningsCalhoun Community College will conduct its 2007 graduation ceremonies on Friday, May 11, 2007, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Kelley Gymnasium, located on the college’s Decatur campus.

According to the Calhoun Admissions Office, approximately 1200 students have completed requirements for graduation during the 2006-2007 academic year. Of that number, 362 plan to participate in the graduation ceremony.

Keynote speaker for this year’s graduation service Dr. Robert R. Jennings, 10th President of Alabama A&M University in Normal, Alabama.  Dr. Jennings, a graduate of Morehouse College and Atlanta University, also received Master’s Certification in Adult Basic Education from the University of Georgia and Master’s Certification in Curriculum and Instruction and Gifted Education from Georgia State University.  He studied as a Charles Merrill Fellow at the University of Ghana in West Africa and as a Fulbright Fellow in Recife, Brazil.  Since 1985, Dr. Jennings has traveled and/or studied in 35 foreign countries, served as a consultant to the U.S. Department of State, the Kigali Institute of Science, Technology and Management in Rawanda, and worked as a consultant to the Reagan and Clinton Administrations, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and as Lead Trainer and agency spokesman for the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.  He is a former Executive Assistant to the President at Atlanta University, former Vice President for Development and Executive Director of the Foundation at Norfolk State University, former Vice President for Institutional Advancement, Albany State University, and former Vice Chancellor for Development and University Relations at North Carolina A&T State University.  He serves as an Adjunct Professor of Educational Administration and Public Administration and Management at the Union Institute Graduate School of Cincinnati and a Visiting Professor of Philanthropy at St. Mary’s College in Minnesota.  From 1998 to 2005, he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Future Focus 2020, a futurist think-tank and research training institute in the Babcock Graduate School of Management at Wake Forest University, Winston-Salem, North Carolina. 

Also during the graudation ceremony, Medallions of Recognition will be presented, honoring several individuals for their service to the college. 

Earlier in the day, the annual Candle Lighting Ceremony for graduates of the College’s Associate Degree Nursing program will be held at 2:00 p.m., also in the gymnasium. Keynote speaker for the ceremony will be Brenda Pruitt, Calhoun nursing instructor.

On Thursday, May 8, the College will recognize the 2007 Adult Education graduates. This ceremony will take place in the Kelley Gymnasium at 6:00 p.m.
