Calhoun Begins Co-Operation Program
Calhoun Community College has announced a joint effort between the College and local manufacturing companies to provide paid, part-time, cooperative student work experiences for technical program students. The Co-Operation Program, set to begin this summer, is offered to high school graduates and current Calhoun students with undeclared majors. “Calhoun recognized the need for skilled aerospace technicians and machinists in our area, and joined with local advanced manufacturing companies to develop a program to meet critical workforce needs in the Tennessee Valley,” said Ann Coleman, program coordinator.
The Co-Operation Program offers work experiences to successful recipients as they progress through their Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees in Aerospace Technology, Machine Tool Technology, or Process Technology. The co-op experiences will be closely coordinated with curriculum so that a student who completes his or her degree will also have up to two years of part-time work experience in their field. “Our goal is to have 100 percent placement in a full-time job when a student graduates,” Ms. Coleman added.
Information and application sessions for students and/or parents will be held in the Aerospace Training Center (ATC) on the Decatur campus. Participants interested in Process Technology have the opportunity to meet with company representatives and instructors on April 24, 2007, at 6:00 p.m. A session for those interested in Aerospace or Machine Tool Technology is scheduled for April 26, 2007, at 6:00 p.m. Contact Ann Coleman at 256-306-2938, or visit the Co-Operation website for additional information and application forms.
