Calhoun Community College Offers Partial
Tuition Waiver for Laid-Off Workers from Triana Industries
The Alabama State Board of Education last week authorized assistance in the form of a 50 percent tuition waiver at Calhoun Community College for displaced workers who recently became unemployed as a result of layoffs at Triana Industries in Madison, AL . Affected employees may take advantage of the waiver to seek training or retraining through programs offered at Calhoun beginning with the Summer 2007 semester and ending with the spring semester of 2009.
The tuition waiver is restricted to displaced workers from Triana Industries who are not eligible to receive funding under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) or other similar state and/or federal assistance programs, and for whom substantial tuition assistance cannot be secured from other sources.
Employees from Triana Industries qualifying for the tuition waiver may still enroll for the second summer short-term, with classes beginning June 29.
