Calhoun Announces Free Summer Tuition Scholarships
for 2007 High School Graduates
Calhoun Community College announced today that the college will once again offer free full-tuition scholarships this summer for high school graduates. Scholarships are available for 2007 high school graduates attending a high school in the college’s service area (Madison, Morgan, Lawrence or Limestone counties). Calhoun’s eight-week summer semester classes begin May 23, 2007.
To qualify for the free tuition scholarships, students must graduate this May with at least a 3.0 grade point average (based on a 4.0 scale); must be degree-seeking (enrolled at Calhoun for the 2007 fall semester); must apply for the 2006-2007 Pell grant by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA); must complete a Calhoun scholarship application and admissions application; must register for at least six (6) semester hours; and must maintain regular class attendance.
According to Calhoun’s Student Financial Aid Office, students qualifying for a Pell grant must first use this funding to enroll. Calhoun will provide funding for full tuition for at least six but no more than 12 semester hours for those students not qualifying for the Pell grant. “It is also important for students to note that they will be responsible for any necessary fees and for the purchase of all textbooks,” said Mrs. Terri Bryson, scholarship coordinator.
“We are extremely pleased to be able to again offer this free tuition program to our local students,” commented Calhoun President, Dr. Beck. “The initial years of the program have been extremely successful and provided an opportunity for many of our recent high school graduates to get a head-start on their college education while providing some financial relief for their parents during the summer,” said Dr. Beck.
“This year, we have a larger pool of dollars available for this scholarship, which will allow us to assist an even greater number of students,” Dr. Beck added.
Deadline for application for the free Summer Tuition Scholarships is April 15, 2007. Scholarships will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis until the fund is exhausted, so early application is encouraged. Complete instructions for scholarship applications are available on-line at https://www.calhoun.edu/scholarships/index.htm.
