Calhoun Community College Receives
Wachovia Foundation Grant
Calhoun Community College recently received a $15,000 grant from the Wachovia Foundation in support of the establishment of a Workforce Certification Testing Center to complement the College’s newly established Center for Manufacturing Innovation (CMI).
“Our mission at Wachovia is to build strong and vibrant communities, improve the quality of life, and make a positive difference where we work and live,” stated Darris Frost, Wachovia Decatur Market Manager. “Calhoun is vital in accomplishing these goals and many others. Wachovia is proud to support the college’s commitment to the community.”
The Certification Testing Center will be a pivotal component of the new CMI program by providing students with both entry-level and modular progression testing for the Center. The CMI program, funded by a $3.5M grant to Calhoun from the U.S. Department of Labor, will provide training in advanced manufacturing processes through modularized curriculum structures and flexible delivery options such as web-based, industry based, open labs, self-directed studies, apprenticeships, and internships allowing students multiple entry and exit points in the program. Based on data provided by local and state sources, the initial phase of CMI will focus on training in Industrial Maintenance and Machine Tool Technology.
The Wachovia Foundation is a private foundation funded annually by Wachovia Corporation. The Foundation provides grants to eligible 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organizations to support four primary focus areas; Education, Community Development, Health and Human Services and Arts and Culture. The mission of the foundation is to build strong and vibrant communities, improve the quality of life, and make a positive difference in the communities where Wachovia does business.
