Calhoun Softball Team
Recognized Nationally for
Outstanding Academic Performance

Calhoun Community College’s Women’s 2005-2006 Fastpitch Softball Team received notification today that they have been ranked fifth out of nearly 450 junior and community college teams from across the nation in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Academic Team Competition.  The NFCA names their Academic Top-Ten teams each fall.  Teams are judged by their members’ overall grade point averages (GPA).  Calhoun’s overall team GPA was 3.290 on a 4.0 scale.

Calhoun re-instated its athletic program last year after a five-year hiatus.  The softball team posted a 33-15 winning season in its first year, led by head coach Nancy Keenum.

The National Fastpitch Coaches Association is the professional growth organization for fastpitch softball coaches from all competitive levels of play.  The association began in the early 1980s from discussion at the National Collegiate Women’s Softball Championships, and boasts national membership of more than 4,100.  The NFCA works with USA TODAY in producing polls for NCAA Division I, II, II, and high school softball, and they also conduct collegiate tournament competitions and recruiting camps throughout the nation.

For more information about NFCA, visit www.nfca.org.  To learn more about Calhoun’s Women’s softball program, contact Dr. Nancy Keenum at 256-306-2850, email nek@calhoun.edu or visit their website.
