Calhoun Softball Team Celebrates Inaugural Season

The Calhoun Lady Warhawks held their end of season celebration at Greenbrier Resturant in Mooresville on Sunday afternoon. The Lady Warhawks were recognized for their 33-15 record, Division RunnerUp, and qualified for the ACCC State/Regional Tournament in their first season of Fast Pitch Softball. The team was recognized for their athletic and academic accomplishments. Team member, Stevie Griffin, presented a slide show to highlight the team's seasons. The team finished with an overall 3.22 Grade Point Average. The 16 players and 2 managers (Jodie Evans, Jimmy Kennedy) received a letterman award for their contribution to the team's success. The 11 Freshman on this years team will return to compete in 2006-07 (Alicia Hall, Kim Haney, Lacey Keenum, Kala Weatherly, Stevie Griffin, Brandi LaMar, Brittany Norton, Megan Hensley, Breanna Lee, Jenea Stephenson, Lindsey Lowery). All 5 sophomores (Racheal Carden, Danielle Dutcher, Jessica Nelson, Jennifer Brewer, and Laura Leigh Keenum) were recognized for their graduation accomplishment by earning an Associates of Science degree from Calhoun Community College. Carden, Dutcher, Nelson, and L.L. Keenum shared the Team Scholar-Athlete Award for the highest GPA. The sophomores GPA's range from 3.81 to 3.90.

Other Individual honors (selected by the team players and opposing coaches in the ACCC) included:

  • Lacey Keenum - Most Valuable Player, All-Region Team, and Northern Division Team
  • Rachael Carden - Permanent Team Captain Award, Scholar Athlete Award, and University of Alabama Alumni Scholarship
  • Brittany Norton - Most Improved Award
  • Breanna Lee - All Region, Northern Division Team
  • Kala Weatherly - Northern Division Team
  • Laura Leigh Keenum - Myra B. King Team Spirit Award, Scholar-Athlete Award, and Athens State University Academic/Alumni Scholarship
  • Danielle Dutcher - Scholar Athlete Award and Piedmont College- Academic/Basketball Scholarship
  • Jessica Nelson - Scholar-Athlete Award
  • Andrew Nelson(4 years old) received the Lil' Houner Award for his effort in chasing Foul Balls.
