Calhoun to Hold MLK Tribute Program
Calhoun Community College will conduct its annual program honoring civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on Thursday, January 12, 2006, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the Fine Arts Auditorium located on the college’s Decatur campus.
Keynote speaker for this year’s event is Mrs. Johnnie Carr, President of the Montgomery Improvement Association. Mrs. Carr, a living legend now well into her ninth decade of life, was an associate of Dr. King and a life-long friend of the late Mrs. Rosa Parks.
The Calhoun Choral, directed by Ms. Holly Powe, will provide music for the celebration. The program is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Dr. Izora Harrison, Director of Services to Special Populations, at 256-306-2635.
All Calhoun classes will be closed on Monday, January 16, 2006, in observation of the national Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
