Calhoun to Offer Community Education Courses this Summer

Starting this summer, Calhoun Community College will begin offering a number of community education courses through its re-established Department of Continuing Education.  According to Continuing Education coordinator Donna Bass, offerings beginning in June will include ballroom dancing, how to sell items on eBay, retirement planning, etiquette training for children,  and upholstery.

“The courses we’ll be offering this summer are based on requests from the community as well as taking a look at the kinds of activities people are interested in these days,” commented Bass.  “We will expand our offerings for the fall and encourage anyone in the community to contact our office with any specific areas of interest,” added Bass.

Ballroom Dancing is a beginning level class targeted for those who want to improve their skills.  Whether you have never danced before or have been dancing for years, if your goal is to improve your skills, then this course is for you.  Course instruction emphasizes proper technique and understanding/development of the fundamentals of ballroom dancing.  Specific dances to be taught will include the Foxtrot, Rumba, and the Eastern Triple Swing.

How to Sell on eBay the Right Way will provide information from a professional on the right way to sell on eBay.   Training will be delivered by an education specialist who uses the most up-to-date training and student materials – the same ones used by eBay University.

Retirement Planning for Baby Boomers will teach why accumulation logic can’t be applied to an income-distribution scenario, what the five threats to a lifetime income are, and which common mistakes to avoid.  If you’re among America’s 76 million Baby Boomers, this course is a definite must.

Manners are Magic is for children ages 8 and up.  Participants will learn about the history of etiquette, first impressions, proper handshakes, making introductions, boy/girl etiquette, telephone manners, table manners and much more.  Each child will be given a place setting and taught the correct way to cut with a knife and fork.  A snack will be served so each child can practice with a “hostess” at a party.

Upholstery will teach the basics of upholstering furniture.  If you’re interested in redecorating your home or earning a few extra dollars in your spare time, this is the course for you.
