Calhoun Student Selected for National Honor Choir
Randie Berard, a Calhoun Community College student, was recently selected as a member of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) NATIONAL TWO-YEAR COLLEGE HONOR CHOIR. She is one of only two students from Alabama to receive this honor. The 192-member choir will perform at the ACDA Convention in March, 2007, in Miami, Florida.
A resident of Gurley, AL, Randie is majoring in Nursing at Calhoun with a minor in Music. In addition, she is a member of the Calhoun Chorale, the College's student ensemble. The Choral performs music of all periods and gives performances throughout the year on campus and at various community events.
Founded in 1959, the ACDA is a nonprofit music-education organization whose central purpose is to promote excellence in choral music through performance, composition, publication, research, and teaching. In addition, ACDA strives through arts advocacy to elevate choral music's position in American society. ACDA membership consists of approximately 18,000 choral directors representing more than one million singers across the United States. ACDA members teach choral music in public and private schools - kindergarten through senior high school, and at the college and university levels. They also conduct choirs in their communities and in places of worship.
