Calhoun Students and Faculty Among
Winners In State-Wide Art Competition
During the recent display of the exhibition “Barbs, Pickets, Words and Dreams” held at Decatur’s Carnegie Visual Arts Center, ribbons and cash prizes were awarded to winners in a state-wide art competition. Among the winners were several students and faculty from Calhoun Community College.
First place and a $500 cash award went to Johanna Littleton of Decatur, Calhoun adjunct graphics instructor, for “Hanging on through the Dog Days of Summer,” second place and $250 was awarded to Calhoun Computer Graphics student Jeannie Price of Huntsville for “The Farm,” and third place and $100 went to Calhoun Graphics/Art instructor Kristine Beadle of Hartselle for “Invasion.” Merit awards and $50 each went to seven artists, including Littleton for her work in the Oil/Acrylic category. The $500 Carnegie Director’s Award went to Calhoun Computer Graphics student John Wynn of Decatur, for “Epic,” a photograph of rusty barbed wire.
Calhoun’s juried participants included painting students Pat Hrivnak, Ann Southard, and Mavis Stephens; Kathryn Vaughn, art instructor; and Pat McDonald, adjunct instructor.
The Carnegie Visual Arts Center, a not-for-profit organization, is a cultural, educational and community-service organization providing an environment to promote learning, creation and appreciation of the visual arts, preserve one of the area's significant historical buildings and serve as a multi-purpose community resource for all the citizens of Decatur, Morgan County and all of North Alabama.
