Calhoun to Hold Reception to Recognize
"Top Ten Students" for 2005

Calhoun Community College President Marilyn C. Beck will present the college's TopTen Students during a 10:30 a.m. reception in their honor Tuesday, April 19, 2005, in the lobby of the Aerospace Training Center (ATC) on the Decatur campus.   

The ten students honored were chosen on the basis of their college and community service and academic achievements from among the 9000-plus students enrolled at Calhoun this year.  Calhoun's Top Ten Students for 2005 are:   

Olivia Augustus

Olivia Augustus is a Criminal Justice major from Madison, Alabama . Olivia serves as the Vice President of Phi Theta Kappa and she is also a Senator for the Student Government Association. She was selected for Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges last year. Her GPA is 3.9. Her goal is to pursue a master's degree and eventually a doctorate in order to one day counsel violent juvenile offenders and improve the lives of children.

Brittany Brown

Brittany Brown is a Biochemistry major from Athens, Alabama. Brittany is an active member of Phi Theta Kappa and Sigma Kappa Delta. She was selected for Who's Who Among American Students in American Junior Colleges this year. Her GPA is 3.9. Her goal is to transfer to Auburn University to pursue her education, and eventually go to Dental School at the University of Alabama in Birmingham and become a pediatric dentist. She would then like to return to Athens and set up a dental practice.

Anthony Crutch

Anthony Crutch is a Design Drafting Technology major from Decatur, Alabama. Anthony serves as a Calhoun Warhawk, is an active member of Phi Theta Kappa, and also tutors for the Upward Bound Program. He is an academic scholarship recipient. His GPA is 3.7. His goal is to receive a Mechanical Engineering Degree from The University of Alabama in Huntsville. Anthony was able to get a head start on his education by attending Calhoun through the Dual Enrollment Program while still in high school. He is also an accomplished musician and performs with his brother at many community events.

Heath Daws

Heath Daws is a Design Drafting Technology major from Athens, Alabama. Heath serves as Calhoun's Co-Head Warhawk and is a Student Government Association Senator. He was selected as Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges this year and is a recipient of a Technical Scholarship. His GPA is 3.8. Heath's goal is to eventually have an occupation that will enhance his life, as well as the lives of others, through doing what makes him happy. Right now that role would be a high school band director through pursuing a music degree from The University of Montevallo.

Jodie Glossick

Jodie Glossick is a Psychology major from Decatur, Alabama. Jodie serves as President of the Student Government Association and the Secretary for Phi Theta Kappa. She was also selected as one of Calhoun's Top Ten Students last year and was the recipient of the Betsy Cantrell Memorial Scholarship. Her GPA is 3.5. Jodie's goal is to eventually earn her Ph.D. in Counseling and practice family counseling through opening her own practice.

Ryan Justice

Ryan Justice is a Mathematics/Electrical Engineering major from Decatur, Alabama. Ryan is a member of the Calhoun Chorale, Phi Theta Kappa, and Sigma Kappa Delta. He was chosen for Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges this year. His GPA is 3.7. Ryan also serves as the youth pastor and music minister at his church. His goal is to eventually continue in that role, as well as complete degrees in electrical engineering, mathematics, and music education.

Melanie Landers

Melanie Landers is a Computer Information Systems major from Moulton, Alabama. Melanie serves as a Calhoun Warhawk and she coordinates Calhoun's ever-increasing Service Learning Program; which is a community volunteer program for students. Through her nomination to the All-USA Academic Team, Melanie was chosen as Alabama's New Century Scholar. She is a member of the All-Alabama Academic Team this year. Her GPA is 4.0. Melanie's goal is to complete her four-year degree, gain full-time employment with a reputable company, and be a supportive wife and mother.

Morris Morell, Jr.

Morris Morell, Jr. is an Aerospace Engineering major from Huntsville, Alabama. Morris is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and Sigma Kappa Delta. He is the recipient of the Disabled American Veterans Scholarship this year. His GPA is 4.0. Morris' goal is to receive his Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace Engineering and then a Master's Degree in Physics from The University of Alabama in Huntsville. He would like to begin his career in the field of research and development in aircraft design and technology and eventually become a lead engineer or project manager.

Kelly Morrow

Kelly Morrow is a Pre-Law/Paralegal major from Athens, Alabama. Kelly is an active member of Phi Theta Kappa. She serves as Historian for Sigma Kappa Delta, and Secretary for IAAP (International Association for Administrative Professionals). She was selected as Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges this year. Her GPA is 3.9. Her goal is to finish her undergraduate degree and eventually attend law school. She would like to obtain a position in which she will be helpful to her community through working with youth and others in unfortunate circumstances.

Jeremy Sanderfer

Jeremy Sanderfer is a Business major from Athens, Alabama. Jeremy is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Black Student Alliance, and the Psychology Club. He was selected as Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges this year, and was one of Calhoun's two All-USA Academic Team nominees. His GPA is 3.8. Jeremy's ultimate goal is to obtain a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management or Marketing. He would like to eventually start his own business and be successful at whatever he does.
