Calhoun's Surgical Technical Program
Granted Continued Accreditation

The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) has granted continuing accreditation to Calhoun Community College 's Surgical Technology program until 2015, recognizing the program's substantial compliance with the nationally established accreditation standards.

The Calhoun Surg Tech program admitted its first students in fall 2000, receiving its initial accreditation in 2002. The 12-month certificate degree program is designed to prepare graduates for employment and careers in the rapidly growing field of Surgical Technology. Surgical Technologists are integral members of the surgical team who work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care.

"Continued accreditation of our Surgical Technology program is extremely important for us, from both the standpoint of our curriculum and just as importantly for our students," commented Program Coordinator Grant Wilson. "Accreditation of the program means that our graduates are able to sit for the national certification exam," added Wilson .

Last year, Calhoun's Surgical Technology program was recognized among the top 10% of the nation's programs with a Merit Award from the Liaison Council on Certification for Surgical Technologists. The award noted that 100% of the program's graduates passed the national certification examination for Certified Surgical Technologists.
