Calhoun Community College Changes Spring Schedule
Due To Increased Gas Prices
In an effort to address student concerns resulting from rising gas prices, Calhoun Community College is retooling its 2006 spring semester schedule. According to Dr. Theresa Hamilton, vice president for instruction and student services, all Decatur campus day classes meeting on the Monday-Wednesday-Friday schedule this spring will meet on Monday and Wednesday, thus alleviating an additional day of travel for students. The college will offer a variety of Friday only classes for those students who may want to attend part-time. On the new schedule, Friday classes will be offered from 8-10:50 am and from 11 am – 1:50 pm, thus allowing students interested in this option to take six credit hours by attending Friday only classes.
“Many of our students are already making a financial sacrifice to attend school,” said Dr. Hamilton. As a commuter college, we feel a responsibility to our students to as much as possible lighten their burden in regards to travel,” she added.
Hamilton stated that a total of 135 class sections will be affected with the new schedule. Only Monday-Wednesday-Friday day classes at the Decatur campus will be affected. Tuesday-Thursday classes at the Decatur campus, nursing classes, technology classes and Huntsville classes will not be impacted.
“Based on the number of students enrolled this fall in day classes at the Decatur campus, we anticipate that over 3200 students, or about a third of our student population, could be positively impacted with this change,” added Dr. Hamilton.
The revised spring semester schedule will be available in printed format or online on Monday, October 10. For more information, contact the Calhoun Admissions Office at 256/306-2607.
