Calhoun Community College
Offers Partial Tuition Waiver for
Laid-Off Workers
The Alabama State Board of Education recently authorized a 50 percent tuition waiver at Calhoun Community College for displaced workers who will become unemployed as a result of the closing of acrylic fibers production at Solutia, Inc. in Decatur , AL . Affected employees may take advantage of the waiver to seek training or retraining through programs offered at Calhoun beginning with the Summer 2005 semester and ending with the Spring 2007.
The tuition waiver is restricted to displaced workers from Solutia who are not eligible to receive funding under the Workforce Investment Act of 1998 (WIA) or other similar state and/or federal assistance programs, and for whom substantial tuition assistance cannot be secured from other sources. Registration for Calhoun's summer session opens May 2, 2005 , and classes begin May 24.
