Calhoun Community College Offers
Help for Displaced Hurricane Victims
Calhoun Community College and the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education announced today they will work with any student currently enrolled in an Alabama College System institution who has made the difficult decision to withdraw due to circumstances caused by Hurricane Katrina.
Affected students are eligible to have their state tuition and fees refunded for the Fall 2005 term. For students enrolled in Mississippi and Louisiana public community, junior, or technical colleges unable to reopen due to catastrophic damage, tuition and fee scholarships will be awarded at Alabama College System institutions on a space-available basis. Provisional enrollments will be processed with financial aid eligibilities assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Calhoun Community College will accommodate late registration for students from the affected areas through Friday, September 9, 2005. Options for these students include distance learning courses, second term classes beginning October 17, and some regular classes currently in progress where instructors have agreed to allow students to "catch up" with course materials.
For more information, contact the Calhoun Admissions Office at 256-306-2607, or Dr. Susan Price, Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education, at 334-242-2900.
