Calhoun Community College 's Best to be Honored
At 36th Annual Honors Day Program

Calhoun Community College will recognize and honor its top students, faculty and staff during the college's 36 th Annual Honors Day program, planned for Friday, April 29, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. in the Aerospace Training Center on the Decatur campus.

Among the students to be honored are Melanie Landers and Jeremy Sanderfer, Calhoun's representatives on the 2005 All-Alabama Academic Team. In addition, Melanie was recently recognized nationally by being named the 2005 New Century Scholar for the state of Alabama by Phi Theta Kappa, the international honor society for two-year colleges. As a New Century Scholar, Melanie was the highest scoring student from the state of Alabama in the All-USA Academic Team competition. Also, the college's "Top Ten" Most Outstanding Students (see Top Ten News Release), which include Landers and Sanderfer, will be recognized.

Other awards to be presented include the James B. Allen Pin Award, given in honor of the late U.S. Senator James B. Allen of Alabama to the student who has demonstrated order through citizenship, scholarship and service.  In addition, the most outstanding student from each of the college's departments will be recognized. 

Academic awards will be given to those students receiving Calhoun scholarships, and scholarships from four-year colleges and universities also will be awarded by representatives from those institutions.

Outstanding faculty and staff at the college also will be recognized through the presentation of Outstanding Teaching Awards to full and part-time faculty and the Outstanding Service Awards, to be presented to the staff member and administrator who have best demonstrated outstanding service to the institution and community in the past year.

A picnic for students and their families will be held immediately following the program.
