On January 28, 2005 , Representative Jody Letson (D - District 7) presented Calhoun Community College with a $1000 Community Service Grant for assistance to students in the College's Dual Enrollment program. The funds will be divided into four $250 scholarships for high school students participating in college credit classes. Rep. Letson also awarded similar grants to Wallace State and Northwest Shoals Community Colleges. The Letson Dual Enrollment Assistance Grants are available to those students who live in and attend high school in Alabama House District 7. "Many families of Dual Enrollment students are paying out-of-pocket for their children to participate in these classes. The grants will provide help to 12 deserving students whose families may not have otherwise been able to afford to participate in this program," said Rep. Letson. "It is an honor for me to be a small part in helping a student achieve their dream of attending college." In addition, Rep. Letson has challenged his legislative colleagues to offer similar opportunities for students in their districts. The Dual Enrollment program allows high school students to take classes through the College and receive both high school and college credits during their 10 th , 11 th , & 12 th grade years.
