Calhoun to Hold Reception to Recognize
"Top Ten Students" for 2004

Calhoun Community College President Marilyn C. Beck will present the college’s TopTen Students during a 10:00 a.m. reception in their honor Monday, April 19, 2004, in the lobby of the Aerospace Training Center (ATC) on the Decatur campus.   

The ten students honored were chosen on the basis of their college and community service and academic achievements from among the 9000-plus students enrolled at Calhoun this year.  Calhoun’s Top Ten Students for 2004 are:   

Dustin Clark

Dustin Heath Clark is a Mechanical Engineering major from Elkmont, Alabama.  He is a member of the Warhawks, Phi Theta Kappa, and performs with Calhoun’s Jazz Band. He has been named to the Dean’s List for 2 consecutive years and is the recipient of numerous scholarships. He volunteers with Community Changers, an organization providing home repairs for individuals on low and fixed incomes, and works part time for the Research Development and Engineering Center of the US Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal. Dustin’s GPA is 3.76.

Ashley Culpepper

Ashley Danielle Culpepper is a Theatre major from Madison, Alabama. Ashley is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Sigma Kappa Delta, Calhoun Alumni Association, and serves as president of Calhoun’s Drama Club. She has been named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges, the National Dean’s List, and was recently named a recipient of an Alabama Conference of Theatre Scholarship, one of only three given statewide. Her community volunteer activities include Panoply and Shakespeare for Schools, and she has worked for Sci-Quest (North Alabama Science Center) for the past two years.  Ashley’s GPA is 3.80.

Josh Dendy

Joshua LaDon Dendy is an English major from Athens, Alabama. Josh serves as Co-head Warhawk and is a member of the Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa, Sigma Kappa Delta, the Psychology Club, and Calhoun Alumni Association. He has been named to the President’s List, the Dean’s List, and was named the Most Outstanding History Student at Calhoun’s 2003 Honors Day Program. He volunteers at the Boys and Girls Club of Athens. He has been awarded an academic scholarship to Athens State University. Josh’s GPA is 3.83.

Jodie Glossick

Jodie Louise Glossick is a Behavioral Science/Secondary Education major from Decatur, Alabama. Jodie serves as Calhoun’s Student Government Association President, Phi Theta Kappa Secretary, Secretary for the Emerging Scholars Program, and is a member of Sigma Kappa Delta and the Psychology Club. She is the recipient of the USAA National Collegiate Student Government Award and was named Emerging Scholars Student of the month for January. Her volunteer activities include Community Theater with Dreamweaver Productions and United Way. She is married and has 2 children. Jodie’s GPA is 3.46.

Andrew Lynn

Andrew W. Lynn is a Pre-Pharmacy major from Athens, Alabama. Andrew is a five-star Phi Theta Kappa member, a member of Sigma Kappa Delta, and a contributor to The Muse, Calhoun’s literary magazine.  This is Andrew’s second year to be named as one of Calhoun’s Top Ten Students. He has also been named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges, the National Dean’s List, and was selected as one of Calhoun’s nominees for the 2004 All-USA Community and Junior College Academic Team. Among his many community activities, Andrew has served as a judge for the Athens Convalescent Center Beauty Pageant. He was also named to the All-Alabama Academic Team. Andrew works as a Certified Pharmacy Tech and has a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Carla McLemore

Carla Michelle McLemore is a Secondary Education major from Athens, Alabama. Carla is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, Sigma Kappa Delta, and the Calhoun Alumni Association. She serves as a Calhoun Warhawk and a tutor for the Upward Bound Program. She has been named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges, the National Dean’s List, and the President’s List.  Carla is a volunteer volleyball coach at Athens Middle School and also volunteers with CASA. She is the recipient of a Sigma Kappa Delta Service Scholarship and an academic scholarship to Athens State University.  She has a GPA of 3.85.

Susan Stewart

Susan Annette Stewart is an Education major from Decatur, Alabama.  Susan serves as President of Phi Theta Kappa, Activities Director of Sigma Kappa Delta, Secretary/Treasurer of the Criminal Justice Club, and Board Member of the Calhoun Alumni Association. She was named to the 2003 All-Alabama Academic Team, Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges, and the National Dean’s List. Susan was selected Student Support Services Student of the Year in 2003 and also received the Betsy Cantrell Memorial Scholarship for Outstanding Leadership. This is Susan’s second year to be named one of Calhoun’s Top Ten Students, and she spends countless hours volunteering for various community groups. She will be attending Athens State University on an All-Alabama Academic Team scholarship. She has a GPA of 3.79.

Regina Watkins

Regina R. Watkins is a Nursing major from Trinity, Alabama.  Regina serves as President of the Nursing Club, Vice-President of Phi Theta Kappa, and President of Sigma Kappa Delta. She was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges and is one of Calhoun’s nominees to the 2004 All-USA Community and Junior College Academic Team. She was also named to the All-Alabama Academic Team and was nominated for the National Spirit of Nursing Award by the Nursing Department. She is the recipient of the William Lee Jones Memorial Scholarship for outstanding achievement in English and outstanding service to Phi Theta Kappa. She serves as a CASA Community Garden volunteer and is engaged to be married. She has one son and will have one stepson. Her GPA is 3.77.

Pamela Woodruff

Pamela N. Woodruff is a Music Education major from Decatur, Alabama. Pamela performs with Calhoun’s Chorale and is member of Phi Theta Kappa, Calhoun’s Student Support Services, and MENC. She was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges and the National Dean’s List. She is the recipient of the Ada N. Moss Music Award, the National Collegiate Education Award, the National Collegiate Minority Leadership Award, and the Collegiate All-American Scholar Award.  Pamela and her husband are raising their two children along with Pamela’s two nieces and a nephew. She has been awarded a transfer scholarship to U.A.H. and has a GPA is 3.81.

Patricia Wozny

Patricia Anne Wozny is a Biology/Secondary Education major from Decatur, Alabama. Tricia serves as Co-head Warhawk and tutors for the Upward Bound Program. She is a five star Phi Theta Kappa member, and is a member of Sigma Kappa Delta and the Centurions. Tricia was named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges and the National Dean’s List and was selected as Most Outstanding Warhawk by her fellow Warhawks. She is a student worker in Calhoun’s Student Financial Services Office and has a GPA of 3.61. Tricia has been awarded a Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship and a Dean’s Scholarship to the University of Montevallo.
