Guitar Ensemble Performance Set for Calhoun

Calhoun Community College will host a special music concert on Thursday, April 22, 2004, at 12:00 noon, in the Recital Hall of Fine Arts Building on the Decatur campus.  The William Carey Guitar Ensemble from William Carey College in Hattiesburg, MS will perform.  Admission to the concert is free, and it is open to the public.

The Guitar Ensemble, a performing group of music students at William Carey College, is led by Dr. Miroslav Loncar.  Dr. Loncar serves as professor of music and artist-in-residence at William Carey and performs internationally as a soloist and in duo with his wife. He is also Director of Summer Guitar Schools in Karlovac and Imotski in Croatia.

The Ensemble's performances include solo, trio, and full-ensemble settings of various types of music, including classical, Latin, spiritual, and jazz. Members include Armin Abdihodzic and Alma Sehic from Bosnia, Paulna Puljek from Croatia, and Steven Lanclos, Jay Murphy, Dana Chaney, and Brit Bartels from the United States.

William Carey guitar students have been repetitive winners at local and regional competitions, including Mississippi Music Teachers Association Competition, Music Teachers National Association Competition, Mississippi Federation of Music Clubs, Mississippi Symphony Concerto Competition, and Pine Belt Guitar Symposium Competition. Activities organized by the guitar program include an international concert series, and the Aguado Guitar Club Competition.
