Guitar Duo Performance Set for Calhoun

Calhoun Community College will host a special music concert on Wednesday, April 7, 2004, at 12:00 noon, in the Fine Arts Building of the Decatur campus.  Performing will be the guitar duo of Emily Jones and Jeff McKee.  Ms. Jones is a former member of Calhoun’s Guitar Ensemble.  The program will cover a variety of guitar pieces ranging from three Renaissance lute compositions to Machado’s Four Brazilian Ponteios, to the Overture to Barber of Seville by Rossini (arranged by Mauro Giuliani), and Micropieces #1-5 by Leo Brouwer.  Admission to the concert is free and it is open to the public. 

Emily Jones began her musical studies at the age of seven on the bluegrass mandolin.  At  fourteen, she began studying classical guitar with Margarita Valls de Quesada at Calhoun.  A graduate of William Carey College in Hattiesburg, MS, Ms. Jones is currently pursuing a master’s degree in guitar performance at the University of Arizona under the tutelage of Professor Thomas Patterson.

Jeff McKee began playing the guitar at age fourteen.  He graduated Magna Cum Lauda in 1995 from Okalahoma Northeastern State University.  In 1998, he was awarded a Graduate Fellowship to pursue a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Arizona with Professor Patterson.  Mr. McKee is the co-founder of the Allegro Classical Guitar Program in Tucson, AZ.
