Calhoun Community College Announces 2004 Graduation
Calhoun Community College
will conduct its 2004 graduation ceremonies on Thursday, May 13, 2004, beginning
at 6:00 p.m. in the Kelley Gymnasium, located on the college’s Decatur campus.
Speaker
for the graduation service is Calhoun alumnus Kelly Cain, assistant city
attorney for Decatur. After graduating
from Albert P. Brewer
High School, Ms. Cain attended Calhoun
Community College where she
graduated magna cum laude in May of 1991 with Associate of Arts degrees in
Pre-Law and English, and Associate of Science degrees in General and Secondary
Education. In 1993, she graduated from the University of
Alabama with a B.S. in Political Science and completed her education with a
Juris Doctor degree from UA School of Law in 1996. Prior to her position with
the City of Decatur, Ms. Cain served as a
law clerk in both the Tuscaloosa County District Attorney’s Offices and for
Circuit Judge Sherrie W. Brown. She is a member of the
2002-2003 Leadership Morgan County
class, a member of the Junior League of
Morgan County, and a past board member for the Mental Health Association of
Morgan County. In 1991, Ms. Cain was named Outstanding Junior College Student
for Calhoun and was a first team member of the USA TODAY/Phi Theta Kappa
Academic All-American Team.
Also, during the ceremony,
the College will honor retiring faculty with more than 10 years service, Mr.
Barrett Shelton, Dr. Mary Jane Caylor, and Ms. Cain with Medallions of
Recognition for Service to the College and the community.
Earlier in the day on May
13, the annual Candlelighting Ceremony for graduates of the college’s Associate
Degree Nursing program will be held at 2:00 p.m., also in the gymnasium.
According to the Calhoun
Admissions Office, approximately 900 students have completed requirements for
graduation during the 2003-2004 academic year. Of that number, close to 300
plan to participate in the graduation ceremony.
