GED Online Delivers GED Classroom to Adult Learners
Alabama is First in the Nation to Offer
GED Preparation on the Internet

Alabama’s Adult Education Programs implemented a program in January to deliver educational preparation for the GED Test over the Internet. Alabama is the first state in the nation to launch the innovative program GED Integrated Online Solutions, which allows the state’s Adult Education Programs to serve adult learners by delivering the GED classroom where and when it best accommodates their busy schedules.

Adult students who are seeking a GED will benefit from this innovative new program. The Adult Education Programat Calhoun Community College, as well as similar programs around the state, are now part of The Alabama College System consisting of the state’s public community and technical colleges.

“Since 1942, GED classroom education has helped millions of students successfully pass the GED,” said Alabama College System Chancellor Dr. Roy W. Johnson. “Many students wanting to take the GED Test may be working multiple jobs, supporting their family, working night shifts, living too far from a GED educational program or unable spend all their time in a classroom environment. This new program increases their chances at success by providing easier access to help preparing for the GED Test.”

Using the power of research-tested software and the Internet, GED Integrated Online Solutions not only provides the educational content needed to prepare for the test, but also connects students to one of Alabama’s professional GED instructors. Students can access the program at home, at libraries or where ever there is an Internet connection, regardless of connection speed. With this innovative program, students can study toward their GED on any day or at any hour. GED lessons address the skills necessary to pass the GED Test by integrating comprehensive text, high interest graphics, interactive activities and powerful videos.

GED Integrated Online Solutions provides students and teachers the capability to communicate with each other. The system also includes management tools that track student progress, monitor attendance, record scores and report test readiness. In this era of increasing accountability and maximizing the return on the investment of public funds, this program economically provides instruction for less than $33 per student, per year. Student performance will be tracked so Alabama’s Adult Education Program can provide data for the National Reporting System for Adult Education. On next year’s Adult Education Report Card, the state’s adult education providers will be evaluated on their effectiveness in providing this program.

For more information on the GED Integrated Online Solution, prospective students may contact the adult education program at Calhoun at 256-306-2830, or they may call the Department of Postsecondary Education’s Workforce Development and Adult Education Division at 1-800-392-8086 or (334) 353-4882.
