Calhoun Announces Selection of New Student Affairs Dean
Calhoun Community College President Marilyn C. Beck today announced the selection of Dr. Kermit Carter as the college’s new Dean for Student Affairs. Carter most recently served as Calhoun’s assistant dean for student affairs, a position he has held for the last four years.
Carter has over 30 years of experience in the student affairs and student development arena, having served in student services positions at Oakwood College, the University of Alabama-Huntsville, and Andrews University (Michigan). He earned his bachelor's degree from Oakwood College; his master's degree from Alabama A&M University; and his doctorate from the University of Alabama. "Dr. Carter was selected for this position through a national search that resulted in a strong pool of community college student development leaders. The search committee for this position recommended three very capable finalists, from which Dr. Carter was selected,” said Beck.
“We believe that Dr. Carter is one of the finest student services professionals in the state. Since he has been at Calhoun, and under his leadership, we have seen a steady increase in our student enrollment, our One Stop Center for students will soon be completed; we have instituted several programs in the student support services area to enhance student success; our student orientation program has been reinstated; and the Service Learning and student photo identification programs have been established," Beck added.
As Calhoun's new Dean for Student Affairs, Carter is responsible for admissions and registration, recruiting, financial aid, counseling, orientation, career placement, student activities, student support services, Upward Bound, and services for special student populations.
