Calhoun's Chief Financial Officer Set to Retire
After 20 Year Career with College

Donald Davis, dean for Business and Finance at Calhoun Community College, will retire this month after a career spanning 20 years at Calhoun and over 30 total years in the financial management field.  Davis’ official retirement day is January 30, 2004.

Davis, who was named as Calhoun’s chief financial officer in July 1998, has been an employee of the college since 1983.  Prior to assuming this position, Davis served as Calhoun’s Assistant Dean of Business Operations.  An Athens, Alabama, native, he also served in other positions at the college, including Director of the Physical Plant and Security, Director of Auxiliary Services, Interim Director of Human Resources, and Interim Dean of Business Operations.  In addition to his tenure at Calhoun, Davis has served in business/financial positions with the State of Alabama Department of Revenue and the Department of Examinees of Public Accounts.

Last year, Davis was named Business Manager of the Year by the Alabama Association of College and University Business Officers (AACUBO) and the Alabama College System Financial Management Association (ACSFMA).

“The expertise, professionalism, experience, and business acumen Donald Davis provided to Calhoun are immeasurable,” stated Calhoun President Marilyn Beck.  “I know I speak on behalf of the entire Calhoun family when I say he will truly be missed.”  A reception to honor Davis will be held at the Calhoun Decatur campus on Thursday, January 29, 2004, from 1:30-3:00 pm.

According to Dr. Beck, Jody Upchurch, who currently serves as Assistant Dean for Business and Finance, has been appointed Interim Dean.
