April 11, 2003 WIA Out-of-School Youth Program Launch SetThe Calhoun Community College WIA Out-of-School Youth Program is planning a two- day LAUNCH (Learning About Unique New Career Hopes) program for Tuesday and Wednesday, April 22 and 23, 2003. This program will serve as an orientation to a four-week job readiness training program for qualified applicants at Calhoun. The event will be held at the Calhoun Aerospace Training Center (ATC) from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Thursday and from 8:00 a.m. until noon on Friday. The Calhoun Out-of-School Youth program is open to young people between the ages of 14 and 21 who did not finish high school or who have completed high school but need some assistance. To qualify, applicants must meet the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) income and other requirements. There is no charge to attend the LAUNCH or qualify for the program. Calhoun’s WIA/OSY program works in partnership with community and employment organizations in Lawrence, Limestone and Morgan counties to provide work readiness and skills training to young people who are ready to take the next step on their future career path and need a helping hand. We provide participants with the basic skills needed to get and keep a job in today’s competitive marketplace. Program certification is planned Friday, from noon until 2:00 p.m. following the LAUNCH.
