The People Speak
North Alabama Debates America's Role in the World
Calhoun
Community College will host a
debate on American foreign policy on Wednesday, November 12, 2003, at
6:00 p.m., in the Aerospace
Training Center on the Decatur
campus. The debate will feature Chuck Yancura, former Mayor of
Madison and retired from the Army, and O. Wendell Davis, Minister of
Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and Calhoun adjunct instructor.
Dr. Michael Kinney, Calhoun History and Political Science instructor
will serve as moderator.
Debate topics will address questions such as the preemptive use of military
force to stop the spread of weapons of mass destruction and under what
conditions the US should take part in military interventions; US domestic
policies focusing on the environment, poverty and health; and whether America is
better off working with international institutions or not. Audience
participation will be encouraged during the questions-and-answer period
following the formal debate.

the World is a nationwide event, and
is jointly funded by the Open Society Institute, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund,
