Calhoun to Host Regional Workshop
for National Science Foundation

Calhoun Community College, in conjunction with the National Science Foundation (NSF), will host a regional, one-day grants workshop on Friday, October 10, 2003, beginning at 7:30 am in the Aerospace Training Center on Calhoun’s Decatur campus.

The workshop will focus on NSF programs that include a workforce development component and other programs that impact technological education and workforce diversity. Specifically, there will be presentations on NSF’s Partnership for Innovation program, the Advanced Technological Education program, and the Human Resource Development program. Calhoun has been the recipient of several NSF grants, including its current involvement in the NSF-funded SpaceTEC (National Aerospace Technical Education Center) project.

Because of its focus on workforce development issues, this workshop should be of particular interest to community colleges and others interested in America’s technological labor force. The National Science Foundation is charged with advancing science, mathematics, engineering and technology education at all levels from pre-K through postdoctoral, as well as keeping our nation’s science and engineering enterprise healthy, dynamic and relevant.

Cost to attend the workshop is $10.00 per person, and pre-registration is required. For more information or to register, contact George Wilson at the National Science Foundation Office of Legislative and Public Affairs at 703-292-8070 or by email at gwilson@nsf.gov.
