Calhoun Community College Announces 2008 Spring Semester Enrollment Figures; Hits Record Enrollment for Spring
With the first week of the 2008 spring semester complete, Dr. Marilyn C. Beck, president of Calhoun Community College, today announced preliminary student enrollment numbers. A total of 8757 are enrolled as of today, an all-time enrollment for the college’s spring semester and an increase of almost 8% over last spring’s numbers.
As of today, 4984 students are enrolled at the Decatur campus; 3438 are taking day, evening and weekend classes at the college's Huntsville/Cummings Research Park site; 139 are in classes taught at the Redstone Arsenal extension and 196 are enrolled in the Limestone Correctional Facility program.
While these are preliminary numbers, Calhoun admissions director Dr. Wayne Tosh anticipates the final count to be very close to today’s figure. “We are completing our drop and add period and anticipate additional students to be added to today’s numbers in our Dual Enrollment classes and the Limestone Correctional program, commented Tosh. “However, each semester, a few students are dropped from the roll due to non-payment of tuition by the deadline, so when we get the final count for this semester, we expect to be somewhere around the 8700+ figure, which will put us up about 700 students over this time last year,” Tosh added
Beck, said, “We are so excited about our steady enrollment growth here at Calhoun, which we attribute in part to the availability of day classes now at our Huntsville campus. Over 1100 students have enrolled in day classes alone in Huntsville, which is actually more than were enrolled there for day classes this fall.
“The continuing popularity of our Huntsville campus day classes demonstrates Calhoun’s ability to fill an unmet need and to provide additional scheduling options for our students,” Beck added
“As the largest of Alabama’s two-year colleges, Calhoun continues to offer quality instruction and workforce training opportunities at an affordable cost and in various schedules and formats, which is indicated through our continued enrollment increases," added Dr. Beck.
