College Officials Announce Record Enrollment for Fall
Dr. Marilyn C. Beck, president of Calhoun Community College, announced today that the college's 2009 fall semester enrollment has reached a new record for the school, with a total of 11,187 students enrolled to date, an increase of 18.6% over last fall's numbers.
Of the students taking classes at Calhoun this fall, 4904 are enrolled in day and evening classes at the Decatur campus and 4717 are taking day, evening and weekend classes at the college's Huntsville/Cummings Research Park site. Distance Education enrollment has increased 42% over Fall 2008 with 1220 students taking classes on-line. Enrollment numbers for the college's Dual Enrollment students currently stand at 165; however the College's Admissions office is not yet finished processing enrollment applications. Final Dual Enrollment numbers for the semester are expected to top 500. Current enrollment for the college's program at Limestone Correctional Facility's is 181, with another 100 students to be loaded into the system.
“With the additional students to be added into the system for Dual Enrollment and the LCF program, our final enrollment figure for fall should top 11,600 students ,” commented Dr. Rob St einmetz, associate dean for enrollment management and registrar at Calhoun.
“Our goal when we started registration for the fall semester was 10,000 students,” said Steinmetz. “To say that we are amazed at the fact that we're approaching the 12,000 mark would be an understatement. Cal houn is a significant resource for those wis hing to continue their education, and we are pleased to be such an integral part of the north Ala bama region,” he added.
Commenting on the increase, Beck, said, “We are extremely excited about reaching this all-time record for enrollment at Calhoun. As the largest of Alabama 's two-year colleges, Calhoun continues to offer quality instruction and training opportunities at an affordable cost and in various schedules and formats, which is indicated through our continued enrollment increases," added Dr. Beck.
