Calhoun Community College Moves to
4 ˝ Day Schedule for Fall Semester

On the heels of the successful pilot of a four-day work week this summer, Calhoun Community College officials today announced that the college will go to a four-and-a-half day schedule beginning August 24, the first day of fall classes for the college.

The decision to move to a four-and-a-half day schedule this fall was reached after the college conducted a cost analysis of energy savings during the five-week pilot of this summer's altered schedule which showed a savings of close to $40,000 in energy costs. Additionally, the college's Institutional Research office conducted a college-wide survey of Calhoun personnel to determine opinions for the four-day summer schedule and a proposed 4 ½ day fall schedule. “Seventy-six percent of our personnel indicated that they were satisfied or very satisfied with the four-day schedule this summer, with 71% of those surveyed indicating their preference for a 4 ½ schedule for the fall semester,” commented Calhoun President Marilyn Beck.

Beck added that in order to accommodate student needs, the college's Financial Aid and Admissions offices at both campuses will remain open until 6pm, Monday – Thursday. Additionally, the new schedule will not change evening or weekend class schedules. “It is important that our evening and weekend students, faculty and staff know that their schedules will not be impacted by this change,” Beck said.

Work hours on the new schedule will be 7:45 am – 5:15 pm, Monday – Thursday and 7:45 – 11:45 am on Fridays. Evening and weekend classes/office hours will remain as previously scheduled.
