Calhoun’s Adult Education Program
Awarded 20% Funding Increase From State

Program served over 2000 students last fiscal year

Calhoun Community Col lege officials reported today that the college's Adult Education program has been awarded $1.4 million in funding from the state for the current fiscal year which began October 1, 2009. According to program director Chris Miller, this year's funding represents a 20% increase over last year.

“We are extremely pleased to receive this budget increase from the state,” commented Miller. “The demand for our programs continues to grow as was demonstrated in the increased number of students we served last fiscal year – over 2,000 across our three-county service area of Madison , Morgan and Limestone counties. This funding increase will allow us to serve even more students this year through our programs,” Miller added. According to Miller, the program served 16% more students during the 2008-09 fiscal year than the previous one.

Calhoun's Adult Education program, which was recently recognized as an Outstanding Program in the state, has also recently added 10 additional program sites across its service area to meet the growing demand.
