Calhoun Awarded $60,000 State Workforce Development Grant
Calhoun Community College President Marilyn Beck today announced that the college has been awarded a $60,000 grant from the state’s Workforce Development program to purchase new equipment for the welding program.
The new equipment will allow the welding program to expand to accommodate more students. Currently, the program can only accommodate 15 students at a time and always has a waiting list of applicants. “There is a significant demand for skilled welders in the state, and the addition of new equipment for our program will allow Calhoun to help fill this demand,” commented Beck. Through the outstanding work of our welding instructor, Calvin Washington, Calhoun’s program is well-known and highly regarded by area employers and has a 100% placement rate for students completing the program,” Beck added.
The new equipment will allow Calhoun to more than double the number of students who can be served through the welding program.
