Calhoun Announces New Division Dean
Calhoun Community College President Marilyn Beck today announced the hiring of Bethany Clem as the college’s new Dean of Business, Technologies and Workforce Development.
Clem comes to Calhoun from the Alabama Department of Postsecondary Education in Montgomery, where she most recently worked as director of career and technical education for the past year. She also served as education administrator for the Alabama Department of Education for five years.
A native of Pulaski, Tennessee, Clem graduated from The University of Tennessee and earned her master’s degree in education from Alabama A&M University.
Clem began her educational career as a drafting and design instructor at Drake State Technical College in 1988, serving until 2002, when she moved to the Alabama Department of Education. She also owned two architectural design companies.
“We are extremely excited that Bethany Clem has made the decision to join Calhoun’s administrative team,” said Beck. “Her years of experience in both the educational and business arenas will be a significant asset to the college as we continue to serve the growing education and training demands of the north Alabama area,” Beck added.
According to Beck, Clem will officially begin her duties at Calhoun on August 18. She fills the position left vacant with the promotion of Dr. Mary Yarbrough to vice president of the college. In her new role as dean of the college’s division of business, technologies and workforce development, Clem will oversee Applied Technologies, business and industrial training, professional certifications, industry services, and adult and continuing education.
